UPT
– Oporto Global University, is a private higher education institution, ISO 9001
certified, recognized by the Portuguese Government and the Portuguese Agency
for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education - A3ES. UPT’s Research
unit, IJP, is certified by the Portuguese funding agency for research, FCT.
Created
in June of 1986, UPT – Oporto Global University located in Oporto, known as the
'Cidade Invicta', Oporto gave Portugal its name. Located in the north of
Portugal, on the right bank of the River Douro, Oporto is the country's second
largest city situated within an urban area of over 1.3 million inhabitants.
Oporto
is internationally known for its port wine, bridges and its old and
contemporary architecture. Its historical centre has been a UNESCO World
Heritage Site since 1996. The city of Oporto is also a centre of educational
and research excellence, standing out for its technological and scientific
innovation which attracts students from all across the country and from
overseas.
UPT- CAMPUS :
UPT is organized in four Departments: Law, Economics,
Management and Informatics, Heritage and Tourism and Psychology and Education
that teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle programmes and post graduations, structured
according to the Bologna Process. UPT aims to be a model in higher education,
taking the advantages of the different department’s synergies. More than
acquiring theoretical knowledge, the students have the chance to develop
practical work and research projects, developing different kinds of skills that
prepare them for jobs in future career and for living in a competitive global
society.
It is our mission to ensure quality
education at the highest standards of excellence in the relevant disciplines,
in order to educate fully competent professionals and socially responsible
citizens. Students are our priority and the formation we provide aims to equip
all our graduates with a first-rate professional education and to enhance the
development of individual potentialities and personal and professional
competences.
In order to achieve these objectives,
courses are structured so as to respond flexibly to changing labor market
needs, through various teaching methods empirically based on significant case
studies whenever applicable. UPT also makes available to students forms of
personalized tutorial assistance intended to complement and support purely
class-based instruction. UPT has its own dedicated staff, fully qualified,
research-active and highly motivated by a spirit of constant self-improvement.
We also count on the input of practicing professionals from different
industrial and commercial sectors, through the medium of guest seminars on
various themes, thereby promoting its relationships with the corporate world with
the goal of preparing students for future professional demands.
UPT has a wide and modern campus in
the Asprela University zone. It is well-known for high technological innovation
level. The several computation laboratories are available 24h a day with
wireless net over the campus which makes access to information easier,
contributing to the personal and scientific development of the students. There
are different areas in the campus: not only the Library that invites the
students to study and reflection, but also the bookshop, forum, canteen, bars,
in and outdoor cafés and parks for leisure and social contact.

Our officially recognized research
(ISO 9001 and FCT) works intensively with partners across the world, delivering
world class research and creating bleeding hedge knowledge to assist and
promote sustained global development for all. We share that knowledge under a
strict Open Access Policy (whenever research is publicly funded).
We deliver that knowledge to our
global students in our accredited (Portuguese Ministry of Educations,
Portuguese Higher Education Accreditation Agency and ISO 9001) teaching
Departments and Programmes.
Our internationally driven Faculty pastoral
duties, the vibrant learning community, the social responsibility and
commitment of UPT as whole, the exciting, tolerant and multicultural
environment in Portugal, contribute to the development of the personal,
interpersonal, cultural and intercultural skills mandatory to succeed
professionally in a Global world.
UPT Research :
The Research Policy is based on a set
of principles, values and guidelines shaped by a vision of R&D usefulness
to society. It is assumed that the first function of the University is to
produce knowledge that later disseminates, internally through teaching, with
immediate use by the UPT, and externally through initiatives and means in Open
Access, contractualized knowledge transfer and registration of
intellectual property.
The social utility perspective of the
produced knowledge justifies the investment in this activity. This investment
can be either internal or external to the institution, in the latter case it
may come from the private sector or the public sector at national, European or
extra-European level.
OBJECTIVES :
• Promote the creation of useful
knowledge for the Society in a context of internationalization;
• Promote scientific and
technological development;
• Integrate the UPT into the national
and European scientific research system;
• Feed with content the pedagogical
activity of the Institution;
• Strengthen cooperation and
interaction between the scientific community and society;
• Promote the enhancement of
the attractiveness of young people to careers in the R&D sector;
• Expand the range of participants in
research programs through the organization of inter institutional and
international teams, the twinning of research units and the exchange of good
practice.
The Research Policy is the instrument
for the pursuit of the R&D objectives outlined in the strategic planning of
the Institution. It is carried out by the research units - RU - existing in the
UPT and coordinated by the Rectory, in particular by the Vice Rectorate of
Research. This coordination function is called UPTi.
WHY

city provides a great variety of services and resources to suit every taste and
pocket, but as far as satisfying basic needs is concerned, the city can be

Education,
health, legal information and protection, and banking services are accessible
by all foreign citizens and ensure at least a basic level of cover equivalent
to that provided to Portuguese nationals, thereby ensuring effective assistance
in any case for anyone who chooses to live in Oporto for a temporary period of
up to one year. In these three areas, services intended for foreign citizens
are also available and provide specific support.

is also important to note, in terms of amenities, that the city has a diverse
range of cultural and sports facilities, green spaces, public transport network
(STCP-buses) and metro system, hospitals and local health units, clinics,
pharmacies, etc.

a final note, and of particular note, the city of Oporto was voted Best
European Destination in 2012 and 2014 by the European Consumers Association.
